ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

MA PROGRAM

1. Political Economy (Ma)

The candidates needs to have at least needs to have at least a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Political Science, other closely related social science disciplines such as Philosophy, Sociology, Geography, History, and Law from an authorized educational institution.

2. Public Policy And Leadership (MA)

A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree in economics, management, leadership, public administration, development studies, agriculture, project management, administration and education fields of study;

3. Project Management (MSc.)

Candidates who have a minimum of BA/BSc degree in economics, accounting and finance, management, banking principles and practices, business and public administration, engineering, applied science (applied chemistry, applied mathematics, etc.) from the well-recognized academic institutions.

4. Peace And Development (MA)

Applicants with degrees from the following fields of study can directly join the MA program in Peace and Development: Peace and development; and International Relations; Sociology; Social anthropology; Gender and development; Governance and Development studies; History; Administration, and other equivalent/related fields of study.

PhD PROGRAM

1. Public Policy And Leadership

Admission Requirements

• Candidates to the Public Policy and Leadership graduate program shall be admitted in line with Article 79.1 of the ANRS LA senate legislation. A candidate who has a high academic caliber, whose professional experience has been superior and who has received recommendations shall be admitted to the program. Moreover, priorities in admission may be granted to government sponsors as per the pressing need of the government, if candidates have relevant professional background related to policy and leadership.
• At the time of application, the age of the applicant should not exceed 45 years.
• The application shall be assessed and approved by the Department Graduate Committee or may alternatively be based on the rules and regulations to be in forced at the time of admission.
• The minimum intake of a PhD program shall be 3 students and the maximum class size for a PhD program shall be 10 students, depending on the availability of legible supervisors and resources required.

Academic Requirements:

1. The candidates who fulfil the following criteria will be eligible to join the Doctoral Degree Program in Public Policy and Leadership:
2. An applicant for admission to the program must have second degree degree in Policy Analysis, Development Studies, Development Economics, Management, Leadership, Public Administration, and related field of studies from recognized higher institute/University.
3. Incase when the applicant has no related professional background to the professions listed under “a”, he/she will be required to take two bridging courses (Public Policy making and Execution, and Contemporary Leadership and Governance) from the MA curriculum and must score a grade of minimum “B”.
4. The applicant shall apply with authenticated educational documents, two recommendations letters written by candidate’s former instructors and/or employers, a letter of sponsorship to cover tuition fees, living costs and doctoral research costs, and 3-4-four pages of research synopsis. The academy will also require official transcript of the applicant from previous degree awarding institute.
5. The applicant must satisfactorily pass entrance exams to be administered by the program.
6. Foreign applicants may, in lieu of sitting for entrance examination, submit the results of GRE/TOEFL/IELTS or equivalent language proficiency examination for applicants from the countries who’s medium of instruction is not English.
7. Applicants shall write a motivation letter demonstrating the rational of joining the program.
8. In addition to all the above requirements, the thesis result of the applicants is required to be a minimum of “good and above” (to get admitted to this program).
9. Political economy and governance

Admission to the PhD Program in Political Economy and Governance follows the general guidelines set forth by ARSU Senate Legislation. The academy welcomes qualified applicants with no discrimination towards their gender, cultural, ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds. Selection of candidates might be based on the number of applicants and the available space at each period of enrolment. But, admission to the PhD program sets minimum criteria which have been designed to identify applicants who have sound academic potential with strong creativity, critical thinking, and social and moral values. Specifically, the candidates MUST meet following requirements for a successful admission to the PhD Program:

• A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, political economy, Development Studies, Political Science, International Relations and other related disciplines with a research component (i.e. a minimum grade of ‘Good’ in their Master’s thesis or should demonstrate appropriate research experience) from a recognized institution of higher education, or provide documentation indicating that they will earn such a degree before enrollment in the doctoral course of the academy. The candidates must have studied basic microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistical (mathematics) classes in his/her previous education;
• Satisfactorily pass the entrance exam to be administered by the Department. The exam shall consist of basic economics, political science, and statistics/econometrics.
• A synopsis of 3-5 pages specifying background and problem statement, the scientific theory, approach and methodology of the proposed study.
• A minimum of two letters of recommendation from former instructors, employers or professional associations. One of such recommendations has to be from former instructors or Academic Advisors.
• Foreign applicants whose first language is not English or who received their BA and MA degrees in a language other than English are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English through international accredited English tests, i.e TOEFL and IELTS.
• Age of the candidate should not exceed 40 years.
• The candidate must follow the application procedure determined by the Admission Office of the academy.
